You know that you need to schedule regular oil changes, but stopping into your local service center once or twice a year isn’t always enough to eliminate the risks associated with leaks and poor oil quality. Thankfully, learning how to check your car’s oil is quick and easy if you drive with Acura. Although you can always check the dipstick under the hood, San Diego-area drivers should know that the Acura Maintenance Minder™ on your dashboard will tell you exactly when you need to schedule service! We’ll take you through both processes below.
The Acura Maintenance Minder™ will read at 100% after you put fresh oil in your car or SUV, and that number will gradually decrease until it’s time to pay a visit to our service center. However, although this electronic oil monitor tracks oil life automatically, you still need to know how to check the oil level in your car by hand! There’s nothing complex about the process; you just need to get under the hood:
If your level is low, pick up Acura Ultimate Full Synthetic motor oil at our parts department. If you’re not sure of why your level was so low, or you’d just prefer to have an expert take care of the issue, schedule service at our Escondido service center. We’re just a short drive away from Temecula or Carlsbad.
Knowing how to check the oil level in your car is important because you never know when you’re going to spring a leak! With low oil levels, even regular driving could cause your engine to overheat, leading to irreversible damage. Of course, catching leaks isn’t the only reason that you need to know how to check your car’s oil! When you have the dipstick in your hand, you can quickly and easily check the consistency, smell, and color, too. If there are particles suspended in the oil, or if your oil smells burnt, you’ll want to schedule oil service in the very near future. Oil will go from light brown to black over the course of its life.
